Q&A with Charlotte Sanders

Q&A with Charlotte Sanders

13 September 2024

Can you tell us a bit about your background and what brought you to Redwood Co Sec?

I moved to Guernsey straight from university and joined the finance industry, starting as a trainee administrator with a corporate service provider where I was exposed to all aspects of Administration, Compliance and Company Secretarial. This gave me a great foundation which I have built on over the last twelve years having since worked with a number of different vehicles from unregulated to listed.

During my studies to become a Chartered Governance Professional, it was clear that I had a passion for Corporate Governance and therefore I took the decision to specialise in Company Secretarial. This led me to acting as Company Secretary, via a corporate services provider, for two FTSE 250 companies and some other listed vehicles. My role with these companies was really rewarding and I took great pleasure in working to the gold standard and building great working relationships with my Boards.

All my previous roles have highlighted to me that the key to providing good corporate secretarial services is strong client relationships and communication. It was clear from my initial discussions with Redwood, which has been reinforced in my time here so far, that Redwood share in this thinking and therefore it felt like a natural fit. Moreover, I believe that no two clients needs are the same and Redwood’s model of flexibility to tailor its service to each specific client’s needs really appealed to me.

What is your new role, and what are you most excited about in joining the team?

In my role as a Senior Manager within the Governance team, I lead on a number of clients and assist with the management of the team and the development of the ever-evolving procedures.

I am most excited to watch and contribute to the growth and development of the Company; the Governance team is made up of some really likeminded, committed and forward-thinking individuals and I am excited, and fortunate, to be a part of the team.

What do you enjoy most about working in this industry?

It is the variety and the never-ending learning; undertaking a task or being posed a scenario that requires research and “out-of-the-box thinking” which leaves my brain hurting at the end of the day, is a fun working day for me. And luckily, these days are plentiful in this industry!

What are you looking forward to learning or achieving in your new role?

I am looking forward to continuing to build on my knowledge as I am exposed to such a diverse portfolio of clients at Redwood and to building relationships with my current and prospective clients.

Can you share a fun fact about yourself or a hobby you enjoy outside of work?

As a child, I was in an episode of Emmerdale, when the Woolpackers sang Hillbilly Rock, Hillbilly Roll!
